Aint no stopping me cook. Seared Tuna with new potato salad with capers, anchovies and rocket


So what if we haven't got a kitchen. We have got a single ring camping gaz cooker ... and we're gonna use it!
So last night I was home early and decided to see what we could put together.

this is what we came up with

Ingredients

2 Tuna steaks
500g new potatoes
1 red chilli (de-seeded and finely chopped)
3 tbs capers
8 anchovy fillets split in half lengthways
Juice of one lemon
4 tbs ex virgin olive oil
large handful of roughly chopped rocket leaves

Put anchovies and chillies in a bowl with half the lemon juice.


Turn on camping gaz ... you could use a traditional hob if you insist.

Now get new potatoes on the boil in well salted water and cook until tender.
Drain potatoes and cut in half lengthways (if they are a little big cut them in half crossways too.

Pour over the olive oil and lemon juice whilst they are still warm and season... go easy on the salt as you will be adding anchovies and capers that are both pretty salty.

Leave for ten minutes to take up the flavours and cool a little.

Just before serving add the capers, rocket and anchovies and chillies and stir gently.

Now put non stick frying pan on the heat and leave until smoking hot.

Sear the tuna for no more than 45 seconds each side.season

Nigel Slaters deceptively brilliant monkfish

Lisa discovered this recipe in her favourite Nigel book. It is one of those fish, 'but not as we know it Jim' recipes. Not just because Monkfish is the fish that can best impersonate meat but also because of the marinade ingredients that are more often featured with lamb. It's not difficult to do but the flavour is a revelation, which makes it a perfect recipe in my book. This can be cooked on a grill pan or a barbecue. Another recipe from the Polpo cookbook. I was inspired to cook this by fellow food fanatic Will Saunders. Its a really, really....i'll say it again....really, easy recipe. Theres a bit of love required to make the tomato sauce but the polpette are a breeze and the combination of fennel and pork tastes great and just a little bit unusual. This made enough for a meal for Martha, Joe and I. A 'food parcel' for Joe to take home and a snack for Lisa when she returned from her screen priniting sojourn in Margate. So it would be plenty for six particularly if you paired it with some pasta or other veg. We had it with a fennel, green bean and rocket salad from the same book.
